À Propos

Where does this day come from?
The International day against homophobia and transphobia comes from Quebec. Fondation Émergence created in 2003 the first national day against homophobia. Since then, Émergence organizes an awareness campaign every year. Other organizations have joined in on celebrating this day and it is now celebrated in many countries.
Why May 17?
May 17 is a symbolic date for homosexual people. Homosexuality was removed from the list of mental disorders of the World Health Organization (WHO) on May 17, 1990.
